WVC Members Sing in Vienna

Singing Mozart's Requiem in Vienna, Austria, March 2013

Members of the WVC participated in MidAmerica International's tour of Vienna, Austria, during Easter Week, 2013.  The tour included performing Mozart's Requiem and Schubert's Mass in G in historic churches in Vienna.

WVC Viennese traveler, Betty Lundy, wrote this notice of the trip:

At the end of March, during this year’s Holy Week, members of the Warwick Valley Chorale traveled to Vienna, Austria, where they joined singers from other parts of the USA, Australia, and Austria to perform choral works by W. A. Mozart and Franz Schubert.  Under the direction of nationally acclaimed choral conductors, Tim Sharp and Earl Rivers, the combined chorus of 100 singers performed Mozart’s Requiem and Schubert’s Mass in G Major. The venues for the concerts in Vienna were the ornately beautiful baroque St. Peters Church (Peterskirche) and the historic gothic Minoritenkirche, where Mozart and Schubert roamed at the heights of their careers.  MidAmerica International organized the tour which included arranging for professional soloists and an orchestra to accompany the singers.

Despite the coldest March in thirty years, the singers shared many warm, memorable moments rehearsing, performing, feasting and seeing the sights of Vienna. The group attended a performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony at the famed Musikverein, the home of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.  The trip was capped off with a tour of Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart and the setting for the Sound of Music.

WVC choristers are ready to perform in Peterskirche

Yes, it was cold in Vienna on concert day, March 27, 2013.  Here we are rehearsing inside Peterskirche

for the concert that evening, which was performed in "tails, mufflers, and overcoats!"

Our esteemed conductors, Earl Rivers (l) and Tim Sharp (r), are ready to conduct Mozart and Schubert.

WVC choristers are part of the 100-member chorus in the Peterskirche.
