Conductor and Accompanist

Dennis English, Conductor

Dennis and his wife, Julie, moved to Warwick in 2003 and on the advice of their realtor Dennis joined the Warwick Valley Chorale. After singing in many venues in New York City (opera, theatre, concert) it was a special treat to join such a quality chorale under the exceptional leadership of Stanley Curtis.

Dennis began his musical studies at Wilkes College in Pennsylvania, and has enjoyed a lifelong passion for singing, particularly ensemble performance. His path was enhanced by working with such brilliant musicians as Hugh Ross, famed director of the Schola Cantorum of New York, and conductor David Amram, former composer-in-residence for the New York Philharmonic under Leonard Bernstein. His work with the Light Opera of Manhattan introduced him to the shows of Gilbert and Sullivan and rewarding roles in "H.M.S Pinafore", "Pirates of Penzance", "Ruddigore". Dennis experienced a wide range of operatic work from medieval musical dramas, through traditional operas, particularly Mozart, and works by contemporary American composers such as Robert Ward.

In addition to his performance career, Dennis has been a music educator with service in K through 12 at both private and public schools including developing a sequential music curriculum at the Horace Mann School. For fifty years, he has given private singing lessons to beginners as well as professionals.

Dennis is the Music Director and Senior Choir Conductor for the Warwick Methodist Church, and he proudly serves with the Warwick Volunteer Ambulance Service.

"It is an honor to conduct the Chorale as they move through this difficult time."
